Weinhexennacht - 2025

Rathausstr. 3, 55430 Oberwesel

Dance in May 2025

Traditional Wine Witch Night on Sunday, 30 April. Who will be the new Wine Witch of Wesel...? The people of Oberwesel ask themselves this question long in advance. But this secret is still closely guarded until the new Wine Witch emerges from the large wine barrel on the historic market square on 30 April with a magic bang and a witch's fire. The Weinhex' is the representative of the Oberwesel wine region. Her name can be traced back to a custom from earlier centuries, when "witch fires" were lit and fire wheels rolled on the slopes and mountains of the Rhine. The Weinhex' is supposed to remind people of this and turn the wine of the winegrowers into a noble drop. Therefore, every year on 30 April, the "old" Weinhex' is bidden farewell and the "new" Weinhex' is enthroned in a traditional ceremony. Of course, the noble wines from Oberwesel's vineyards can also be enjoyed that evening. The wineries Winfried Persch and Goswin Lambrich will cater for the guests during the Main Night. Les Patrons", probably the best-known dance and cover band from the Rhine-Main-Nahe region, will once again provide the musical accompaniment to the event. The band has been around for 50 years and has lost none of its appeal to this day. - On the contrary! In addition to the current Top 40 chart hits, the repertoire of "Les Patrons" includes well over 500 titles from the last 50 years. Among them are the most beautiful oldies by the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Joe Cocker, ABBA, Eagles, Crosby Stills Nash & Young and many more. After a successful introduction in previous years, the two-part stage remains: the band plays facing the audience from the Marktkreuz, the Weinhex' emerges from the barrel in the usual place.
