onion market

Koblenzer Str. 39, 53498 Bad Breisig

The onion market, also known as the ‘Zwibbelsmaat’, is the largest annual festival in Bad Breisig and runs through the streets and spa gardens of the spring town on the Rhine.

Since the Middle Ages, a particle of the Holy Cross has been displayed for veneration in the parish on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.
The pilgrims were followed by the market traders - this is how the traditional Breisig ‘Zwibbelsmaat’ came into being.
Once again this year, around 150 traders line the streets of the town centre with their stalls alongside the Rhine promenade and the new paths in the Kurpark.
From sharpening stones for knives and woollen socks to broomsticks and onion sacks, you will find everything you could possibly need but rarely find in a normal shop.

The opening hours of the market stalls are as follows
Friday, 19.09.2025 from 3 - 8 pm
Saturday, 20.09.2025 from 10 am - 8 pm
Sunday, 21.09.2025 from 10 am - 8 pm
Monday, 22.09.2025 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
