The Great Mosquito Festival - Only Flying is More Beautiful

The family festival on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the memorial site of the Sayner Hütte, attracts with a colorful program.

On the site of the hut, there is a forgotten superstar. A tiny fly, cast from just one drop of iron – the "Sayner Mücke". Although it is no larger than a housefly, it is much heavier and therefore cannot fly.
“In honor of this smallest iron artwork, the Mosquito Festival was established in Sayn many years ago. We would like to revive this tradition again this year with a wink,” explains Barbara Friedhofen (Foundation Sayner Hütte).

The family program starts at 3:00 PM with the flight school for little inventors. The fly that can't fly needs a push to start! With Carla and Toni, the craziest, fastest, and most beautiful flying devices – made from cardboard, paper, and a big dose of imagination – can be crafted! In the modeling and casting workshop, everyone has the opportunity to create their own cast piece, the mosquito coin, from liquid iron. After that, it's time for the fly-catching mission – A game – A fun – A catch. Those who search carefully will be rewarded!

The popular cover band BETOBE will ensure a great atmosphere starting at 7:00 PM, before the fireworks at 9:30 PM let the mosquitoes dance in the night sky! With the live music from BETOBE, the evening can end on a festive note.

A festival that does not want to be new, but special: With genuine encounters and diverse programs on an industrial site that tells history! Whether relaxing in conversation with friends or dancing under the illuminated night sky – the Mosquito Festival aims to create unforgettable moments in the unique setting of the Sayner Hütte.

The culinary offerings are provided by the local clubs TV Mülhofen and Familie Sayn.
