Landesmusikakademie Rheinland-Pfalz: SpeakJazzy

Alte Schlossstraße 2, 56566 Neuwied-Engers

SpeakJazzy Wednesday April 30, 2025 at 7:30 PM in the castle cellar of Schloss Engers Entry is initially free

Also in April, we once again invite you to the SpeakJazzy evening in the Schlosskeller before this series takes its summer break until early October.
For everyone who doesn't know the concept yet: Inspired by the secret "Speak easy" clubs in Chicago during Prohibition, there are "secret" jazz evenings at the Landesmusikakademie under the label "SpeakJazzy". There is no press work or advertising for these evenings. Only those who know about it should feel invited. Of course, you are welcome to bring all your friends and neighbors along...
The drinks and small snacks will once again be provided by our Spanish neighbors Jorge and Amalia from "OLA Gourmet". Entry to the SpeakJazzy evenings is free. We will inform you about further dates in a very secretive manner, but always in good time. The SpeakJazzy series is technically supported by the Brass Studio Koblenz, with content design help from "our" jazz pianist Christian Weller.

This time, the opener band is TWANX! Renowned musicians Gerd Stein (g), Peter Herrmann (b), Hans Kreuzinger (sax, fl), and Moritz Weissinger (dr) will present a range of various original compositions on stage. Stylistically, TWANX! are world travelers; African and Brazilian rhythms alternate with swing; flamenco and rumba meet rock.
The musicians showcase a program with diverse stylistic competence, which unites in their relaxed interplay to create exciting, contrasting, and always meaningful compositions. Thus, a music of its own kind emerges, sometimes calm and lyrical, sometimes temperamental and explosive. Stein and Herrmann have been making music together since the 80s. They studied musicology with jazz pope Prof. Ekkehard Jost in Gießen, where they obtained their Magister degree. They have toured at least 1000 gigs across half of Europe together with the rock band "The Parts". They traveled to Cape Verde and played alongside Cape Verdean musicians at major world music festivals.
Bassist Peter Herrmann runs the Studio Kirchberg in Lollar and produced, among other things, a CD in Botswana with local musicians. He has worked with Frederic Vahle, Tom Liwa, Wolf Mahn, Pete York, and Lulo Reinhardt.
Guitarist Gerd Stein - responsible for the compositions of TWANX! alongside Herrmann - works as a composer and arranger as well as a music educator in his guitar studio in Lahnstein. He has been heard on concert tours with Lulo Reinhardt, Thomas Anders, Ron Williams, and Ekkehard Jost.
Hans Kreuzinger from Gießen, saxophone and flute, holds the musical threads together as a great and virtuosic melodist. He has traveled extensively with Mark Gillespie, the Creamteam, and Aconcagua. He teaches at the music schools in Gießen and Lich.
Moritz Weissinger on drums lives near Gießen and studied jazz & rock at the International Music College in Freiburg (IMCF). He participated in the 19th meeting of the International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ) in 2009 in Lucerne under the direction of David Liebman. Additionally, Moritz received drum lessons from Yoron Israel at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston.
