The Kunstverein Linz am Rhein warmly invites you to the exhibition "Of Palms and Pardel Cats" by the artist Matthias Plenkmann. The opening will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 5 PM in the premises of the Kunstverein (Markt 9). After a welcome by Norbert Boden, the chairman of the Kunstverein, the artist and printmaker Jannine Koch will introduce the artist's work. The exhibition will conclude with a closing event on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 3 PM.
Matthias Plenkmann is a draftsman, printmaker, and sculptor. His creative process often begins with direct observation and drawing explorations on-site. He captures spatial situations and their actors, consciously selecting moments of change, movement, and transformation. He further processes these first impressions – in the form of prints or sculptures that emerge from his sketches and notes. The influence of painting and film also plays a role: colors and structures overlap, movements are hinted at, and spatial depth develops on the paper.
His works invite viewers to look closely: What is happening here? Who or what moves through the space? Where does a change begin? The combination of drawn observations, color accents, and sculptural elements makes his works multi-layered and exciting.
Jannine Koch studied painting and printmaking at the Academy of Graphic Design and Book Art in Leipzig. She lives and works in Gelsenkirchen.
