Weingut Matthias Müller
Mainzer Straße 45, 56322 Spay
Our winery is located in the heart of the romantic Middle Rhine Valley. This stretch of the Rhine between Bingen and Koblenz was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. Nestled in this extremely charming landscape in the valley of Loreley is our picturesque hometown of Spay. Our vineyards are situated in the Bopparder Hamm – one of the most impressive slate steep slopes in the Middle Rhine. The entire Bopparder Hamm, where our vineyards Engelstein, Rabenlei, Ohlenberg, Feuerlay, and Mandelstein are located, is predominantly south-facing. The sun shines on our vineyards until late in the evening, allowing for an ideal ripening process of our grapes. This typicity is later distinctly and individually reflected in the wine.
The wine-growing tradition of the estate dates back 300 years. Our family had cultivated vines on the steep slopes as a traditional mixed winery and marketed the wine on the bottle. For three generations, however, we have been concentrating entirely on winegrowing, which we do with great pleasure and passion. Today the winery is managed by Matthias and Marianne Müller.
We do not confuse down-to-earthness, tradition and continuity with outdated, backward or outdated values: we associate these values with progress, further development and the future. With great respect and reverence, we preserve the awareness of nature and the cultural landscape of the Middle Rhine that has been built up over centuries.
