The Lanius-Knab winery has been in family ownership for about 250 years. Since 1991, the business has been continuously expanded and enlarged by Jörg Lanius. In 1992, the operation moved to a Jugendstil villa with a two-story historical vaulted cellar, and vineyard areas were continuously purchased. Thus, we developed from a part-time business with about 2 hectares of cultivation area into a full-time operation that now cultivates 10.5 hectares of steep slope vineyards. Through a consistent increase in wine quality, Jörg Lanius has led the business to be a top operation in the Middle Rhine region. Since 1995, we have been a member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter.

The vines are located in the VDP-classified sites Engehöller Bernstein and Engehöller Goldemund, as well as the Oberweseler Oelsberg, which were already highly classified in the Prussian site classification of 1801. Low yields, environmentally conscious cultivation, and selective hand harvesting are the guarantees for preserving this natural uniqueness and authenticity. In the cellar, our grapes are processed gently, the must is fermented slowly, and the wines are given ample time for their individual aging. The result is characterful, authentic wines with exceptional longevity!

85 percent of the cultivation is Riesling, along with 10 percent red wine from Spätburgunder and 5 percent white and grey Burgunder. The guarantee for the success of winemaker Jörg Lanius and the sustainable consistency are the particularly expressive and mineral Rieslings.

At the center of a vineyard area of 10.5 hectares is the production of natural wines that make the characteristics of each location and vintage tangible – starting from dry estate Riesling to the noble sweet specialties of Auslesen and ice wine. Our winery also offers Riesling sparkling wine, grape juice, and vineyard jelly.
