The Lanius-Knab winery is family owned for 250 years. Since 1991 the business was constantly raised and expanded by Jörg Lanius. 1992 the establishment moved into an art nouveau villa with a two floored vaulted cellar and step by step more vineyards were bought. By that way the business became from a sideline of 2-hectare cultivation area a full-time winery which cultivates 10,5-hectare of steepest vinicultural area. Jörg Lanius systematically increased the quality of his wines and developed his enterprise to a showpiece of the middle Rhine valley. Since 1995 we make part of the VDP (the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates, abbreviated VDP).

Our wine grows in the VDP-classified vineyard locations Engehöller Bernstein and Engehöller Goldemund as well as the Oberweseler Oelsberg, locations which were already supreme classified in the Prussian vineyard-classification of 1801. Low yields, eco-minded cultivation and selective hand-picking are the recipe for maintaining the natural uniqueness and authenticity. In the wine cellar the grapes are handed gently, the must is fermented slowly and the wine has enough time for its individual maturity. The outcome are authentic wines full of character with extraordinary durability!

85 percent of the cultivation is Riesling added by 10 percent red wine from Pinot Noir and 5 percent of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. Guarantor for the success of the winemaker Jörg Lanius and the lasting resistance are the particularly expressive and mineral Rieslings.

On a wine area of 10,5 hectare our focus is to produce natural wines which make the peculiarities of each location and the vintage come alive - from the dry Gutsriesling to the sweet specialties Auslese and ice wine. In our winery we also offer Riesling sparkling wine, grape juice and wine jelly.
