Weinbergslage "Steeger St. Jost"
Oberstraße 10, 55422 Bacharach
At an altitude of 170 to 200 meters, the top vineyard St. Joost, VDP.GROSSE LAGE®, extends southward above Bacharach-Steeg.
At a steep 60 percent, it slopes toward the Münzbach stream that runs through it. The soils of Devonian slate are covered with a layer of drifting sand, which originates from volcanic eruptions more than 10,000 years ago in the Neuwied Basin. The St. Jost vineyard was named after St. Jodocus, who became famous as a pilgrim and hermit. A chapel was dedicated to him, which stood between Bacharach and the Steeg district until the Reformation.
