St. Johanneskirche
Kirchstraße 1, 56346 Lykershausen
The original St. Barbara Chapel, destroyed during the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), was rebuilt in 1680. After it fell into further disrepair in the 19th century, the still visible Catholic Church of St. John was built in 1886. The bricks were made on-site, and the altar piece from 1775 comes from the Knights Hospitaller Church in Frankfurt am Main.
Since 1914, Lykershausen has belonged to the parish of the neighboring village of Dahlheim, which also includes Kestert and Prath.
Every hiker on the Rheinsteig trail heading from Kamp-Bornhofen towards St. Goarshausen and Loreley passes by the church in Lykershausen. As it is open daily, a visit is worthwhile to pause, rest, and perhaps also to reflect on and be grateful for the beauty of the nature one is walking through.
