To the south of the municipality of Reichenberg, a fascinating testament to the past awaits you: the historic Hessen or Roman road.

This significant trade route once extended from Trier across a Rhine crossing at St. Goarshausen to Kassel, traversing the idyllic landscape around Reichenberg.
Not far from the shelter, a section of this ancient road has been uncovered and marked with an information stone. Here you can experience the impressive Roman architecture up close and immerse yourself in history.
The Roman road played a crucial role in trade and communication in the region. Its route led from St. Goarshausen over Patersberg and past Hof Offenthal, around the south and east of Reichenberg and Reitzenhain to Galgenkopf. Up to this point, it is also referred to as the Roman road.
A visit to this historic path not only offers an exciting insight into the Roman past but also the opportunity to enjoy the enchanting nature of the Loreley region. Combine your hike with a break at the nearby shelter and let yourself be inspired by both history and scenery.
