Loreley statue on the Loreley Plateau

The Loreley. She has made our surroundings world famous and a tourist attraction. Since spring 2023, there is a new Loreley sculpture on the Loreley Plateau. The 2.20 m tall piece is by the Berlin sculptor Valerie Otte, whose design was able to prevail in a national implementation competition with public participation among more than 50 competitors. Valerie Otte presents the beautiful Loreley classically on a rocky pedestal and adorns her figure with numerous insignia from the Loreley story. Her flowing hair resembles the course of a river. The artist, however, emphasizes less the eerie aspect of the danger she represents according to legend for the sailors. In her own words, she seeks to convey a "feminine perspective on the Loreley" - as a woman who mourns for her beloved and is "deep in thought and very absorbed in herself".
