Königsklinger Aue
Königsklinger Aue, 55262 Ingelheim
In 1853, the first small castle in the style of the Crimean villas was built on the Königsklinger Aue (also known as the Eltviller Aue). In the following years, many festivals and events were celebrated on the island with everything you can imagine. One of the next owners had 120 pheasants brought to the island in 1889 and 1890, as part of the Eltviller Aue was already being used by pheasants as a nesting site. In 1905, the then owner made the eastern tip available for the construction of a bathing establishment for the people of Eltville. The same owner had the Krimschlösschen demolished in 1910 and a villa designed by Wilhelm Kreis built. In 1945, the Americans confiscated the Königsklinger Aue. The current owner of the Eltviller Aue is the Meyer family. The island can be reached by ferry boat from Heidenpfad, Rhineland-Palatinate. The family itself does not live in the large property without heating, but a caretaker couple does. In order to do the shopping and not be permanently tied to the ferry, the couple use an amphibious vehicle that functions both as a boat in the water and as a car on the road.
