The idea of setting up a small museum on the history of medicine can be explained by the founders' enthusiasm for collecting. Private collections of equipment, pictures and books form the basis of the exhibition. In the years since its foundation, numerous other exhibits have been added from the public, doctors' surgeries and hospitals or through new acquisitions. The available exhibition space has long since become inadequate, so that not all the artefacts can currently be shown in the exhibition. However, they are honoured in special exhibitions and in a display case reserved for new acquisitions. Books, documents, instruments and other equipment are still welcome. What you leave to our museum will be preserved for posterity and presented in the Johann Winter Museum in an appropriate setting. The aim of the association is to familiarise the interested public with the history of medicine from prehistory and early history to the present day. In recent years, we have therefore been happy to fulfil requests from various institutions and have held several external exhibitions. In addition, the publication ‘Andernacher Notizen zur Medizin- und Krankenpflegegeschichte’ (Andernach Notes on the History of Medicine and Nursing) is published at irregular intervals.
