Förderverein Freiwillige Feuerwehr Oberwesel
Mainzer Straße 53, 55430 Oberwesel
Rescue - Extinguish - Protect
These are the key words that describe the various tasks of the fire brigades. In Oberwesel, men and women volunteer their commitment and expertise around the clock to help you in emergency situations.
Why does the fire brigade actually need a support organisation?
Many citizens ask themselves the question: Why a support association - after all, the fire service is financed by the local authority? This statement is fundamentally correct. The local authority (VG) is legally obliged to set up a fire brigade and to cover the costs of purchasing and maintaining the necessary equipment and training its members The VG Hunsrück-Mittelrhein fulfils this obligation in full, but the above sentence also explains the purpose of setting up a support association. The legislator categorises each municipality into different risk classes. Decisive for this are, for example, the number of inhabitants, the location of businesses, types of roads running through the area, bodies of water, etc. Depending on the recognised risk class, the local authority is obliged to provide and maintain the minimum necessary equipment for the local fire brigade, which is also the case in the VG Hunsrück-Mittelrhein.
If all of this is guaranteed, why the support association - to relieve the cost bearer?
Quite clearly no! The support association does not serve to relieve the burden on the VG. Rather, it has the task of equipping the Oberwesel fire brigade with equipment that exceeds the MINIMUM and thus increasing its effectiveness in firefighting and technical assistance.
