The church is over 50 m long and 14 m wide. The largest part of the masonry consists of tuff. Some workpieces are made from trachyte. Construction began in 1245 - it was completed in 1450. The church served as a burial church for noble or middle-class families. The Christ Church of Andernach is one of the largest and best preserved minority churches in the Middle Rhine region.
