CCO Carnival Museum

56112 Lahnstein

The Carnival Museum of the CCO (Carneval Comité Oberlahnstein), housed in the former customs castle from the 13th century.

Carnival is the biggest folk festival in Lahnstein - its traces can be traced back to the 16th century. The Lahnstein Carnival Museum was established in 1996 by Lahnstein's oldest carnival association, the Carneval Comité Oberlahnstein, or CCO for short (founded in 1934). Since then, many visitors have enjoyed the exhibits of one of the biggest celebrations in the Rhineland's cultural landscape. Hundreds of carnival medals tell their own story. Of course, the classic jester attributes such as jester's caps, scepters, uniforms and other curiosities can also be admired. Beyond the focus on the Lahnstein carnival, objects from Koblenz, Mainz and Cologne as well as other carnival communities are also on display.

Likewise, those interested in history will learn a lot of background information. Admission to the carnival museum is free of charge. As the museum is run on a purely voluntary basis, donations are very welcome. Group tours take place for a small fee.
