The Andernach Carnival Museum, better known by its name in the Andernach dialect ‘Annenacher Fastnachts-Kladderadatsch’, presents the history of carnival customs in a historical setting. The premises are located on the ground floor of the birthplace of the famous poet and writer Charles Bukowski on the edge of Andernach's old town centre at Aktienstr. 12. Markus Topp and his museum team have been presenting various items from the history of the Andernach Faasenacht in three exhibition rooms for ten years now. In addition to well over 1000 medals from the festival committee and the various traditional clubs in the town centre and its districts, these include other objects such as drumsticks, historical photographs and other interesting items. Special highlights include the oldest flag of the Andernach City Soldiers 1896 e.V. from 1914 and a historical film of the Andernach Rose Monday parade. The exhibits are accompanied by dolls with the uniforms of the Andernach carnival clubs and original princes‘ and princesses’ outfits. What is special is that the history of all the clubs is presented here under one roof, providing a holistic view of the ‘Carnival in Andernach’ phenomenon. Anyone interested can visit the museum on the first Saturday of every month between 10:00 and 13:00. Visits can also be arranged at any time outside the regular opening hours at 01772968839. In any case, Markus Topp, who runs the museum with his team entirely on a voluntary basis, guides visitors through the exhibition with a great deal of humour and expertise. In addition to the history of the individual pieces, he also delights visitors young and old with exciting anecdotes about the Andernach carnival and its secrets. Anyone who is now interested in visiting our little museum is cordially invited to drop by and immerse themselves in the colourful and diverse world of Andernach customs. P.S.: The museum is not the only carnival venue in Andernach. Why not also visit the Prince's Column on Merowingerplatz, which was also initiated by Markus Topp. It is freely accessible and can be perfectly integrated into a stroll through the historic old town!
